A play on Amnesty\u2019s founding phrase, Prisoners of Conscience, this t-shirt draws attention to the thousands of people being arrested for peaceful protest in the UK.<\/p>
Since Palestine Action was banned in July 2025, thousands of people have been arrested under terrorism laws for opposing the ban, many at demonstrations organised by Defend Our Juries. Lots of those arrested are ordinary people, including pensioners and students, standing up for what they believe in.<\/p>
If that feels alarming, it\u2019s not just you. Peaceful protesters in court, people arrested for holding signs, and new laws restricting the right to protest are not isolated incidents. They are warning signs of authoritarianism becoming real, visible and urgent.<\/p>
Amnesty is helping to expose that pattern and challenge it. We have intervened in the legal case against the proscription of Palestine Action, monitored protest policing, deployed observers to demonstrations and called for charges against peaceful protesters to be dropped.<\/p>
